Arty friends

Well, it's a busy time here in Newfoundland. I'm working hard, both on developing new work and at my job at Galliott Studios.

I've been lucky enough to meet some fantastic artists whilst spending time in Gros Morne National Park. I came here as artist in residence last summer, which was great. The current artist in residence is fantastic. She's called Jacqueline Bradley, she's from Australia and she's a sculptor. You should look at her website here http://www.jacquelinebradley.com.au/

More news soon!

Bears!

I've added some more images of my new work to the website. I've been making finger puppet rings and framed scenes about a huge bear and a little girl. Check some of them out here http://www.oliviaball.com/#!bears

Forests

Another image of my new work (why not, I'm excited about it!)

A tiny wild forest growing right in your hand

New work

I've finally photographed my new collections and added them to the website. The new collections are named pitcher, belong and forest. All are based upon ideas generated during my time in Gros Morne National Park.

Check out my website here. All the new work is based in the Portfolio section!

Final preparations

Well, I'm nearing the end of my preparations for my big move to Newfoundland. Studio Olivia Ball has been shut down (a VERY sad time for me); friends and family have been visited; a bag has been packed and plans have been finalised.

Here's a photo of the stunning place I'll be moving to. Partly to make me feel better about all the endings before this beginning, and partly so that you can feel jealous enough to consider a visit to the wonderful Gros Morne National Park!

Going on a little jaunt

In a little under 3 weeks I will be setting off to Canada for another trip. I'll be travelling and working for a year this time, mainly in Newfoundland, but hopefully seeing plenty of the country. I'm very excited about having a few days in Halifax, Novia Scotia before heading to my new home in Gros Morne National Park.

I'll be spending most of my summer working, creating and collaborating at the wonderful Galliott Studios in Woody Point. Why not check it out now? http://www.facebook.com/groups/109444492190/

Or, if you're in the area from mid June, why not pop in? I can make you a great coffee!

Here's a photo I took last summer. Clue: It's the red one!

Art to Art

Hello again!

My last post told you all about my first time on the Art to Art programme and I've been back to Two Valleys Radio, this time interviewing Fiona Wilson. Fiona is a textile and mulitmedia artist, and yet another Radiant Worker (Radiant Works are taking over the soundwaves!) She also has much better musical taste than I do.

So go on, have a little listen to a very interesting chat! http://www.twovalleysradio.co.uk/listenagain/art-to-art-13/

Here's a link to Fiona's blog...I'd check out the section about workshops. You might even see Mama Ball there! http://fiona-wilson.blogspot.co.uk/

p.s. Two posts in one day? It's definitely not because I forgot to publish the last one, honest!

A little chat!

Hello friends! Well, as you may know, I have been having a little foray into the world of radio! I've been appearing (if that's the right word!) on the Art to Art programme on Two Valleys Radio. It's a brilliant format where an artist is interviewed, then they choose another artist to interview and so on...creating a chain of artist all based in and around the Valleys around Huddersfield.

I was interviewed by the lovely Kate Masterson, a painter and fellow Radiant Worker. Hear the interview here http://www.twovalleysradio.co.uk/listenagain/art-to-art-11/

You can see Kate's work here, it's well worth a lookhttp://katemasterson-painter.co.uk/

Re-awakening

Well, it may seem as though I've been hibernating for the winter, but I have been working away (I promise!). My lovely studio was completed in November and I have been enjoying having my own space to work in. Christmas was ridiculously busy with lots of commissions and a plenty of mulled wine with the other studio holders at Radiant Works!

Projects from Newfoundland are ongoing and I'm enjoying working with some different materials and getting back to playing with new things. Some of it's even 2D...shock horror!

So yes, I'm back to posting and out of hibernation. Although there may still be a few bears about...
